Jeder fragte sich wie 6ix9ine nach rund 1,5 Jahren im Gefängnis zurückkommen würde. Als potenzielles Ziel für verfeindete Gangs wurde der 24-Jährige bereits vor seiner Entlassung für Tod erklärt. Umso überraschender war sein Comeback – mit einem lauten Knall meldete er sich zurück und machte noch härtere Ansagen als vorher. Nach seinem Hausarrest ging er bewusst raus auf die Straße und beanspruchte den Titel als „King of New York“ für sich.

Suizidgedanken

Der Rapper scheint also trotz allem gut mit seiner Situation zurecht zu kommen und weiterhin gegen alle Widerstände anzukämpfen. Doch das war nicht die ganze Zeit so. In einem neuen Interview mit Fox 5 erklärt der Rap-Superstar, dass er sich im Gefängnis teils in einem schlechten mentalen Zustand befand und auch mit Selbstmordgedanken gespielt habe:

“The pressure is so strong. Mentally, I think people would have attempted suicide. At a point in jail, I thought about it. It’s so much stress, so much pressure, because you just see yourself on the news every day–this, that, and the third, and you’re like, ‘When is this going to come to an end?‘ (…)

Mentally, God has built me so strong. You know the saying, ‘What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger?’ So basically I feel like I’m, not invincible, but I feel like I’m at the peak of my mental state, where I’m just like, ‘I’ll be fine,’”

Tekashi erzählt weiter, in welchen Zuständen er in Haft saß und weshalb er frühzeitig aus dem Knast entlassen wurde. Eigener Aussage nach war es im Gefängnis so kalt, dass er eine Bronchitis bekam und durch seine Asthmaerkrankung im Falle einer Corona-Infektion schwere gesundheitliche Schäden zu befürchten hätte.

“With the asthma and the coronavirus, I caught bronchitis once and two asthma attacks in prison. When I caught bronchitis, they sent me to the hospital and the doctor said, ‘What’s going on in that jail? Why is it so cold in that jail?’ I remember, I’m handcuffed … to the bed.”
